14th International Symposium
on Ferroic Domains

Barcelona, 26-28 September 2018

The International Symposium on Ferroic Domains (ISFD) has been held bi-annually since 1989, timed to fall between the International Meeting of Ferroelectricity and the European Meeting of Ferroelectricity. It serves both as a half-way stop between them and as a portent of what’s going to be hot in the next year’s highlight meeting of ferroelectricity.

The research themes cover experimental and theoretical advances in our understanding of domains, domain walls, phase boundaries and other topological mobile structures. Scientific quality and originality are the sole criteria for selecting talks.

The forthcoming ISFD-14 is going to be held in Barcelona, at the “Casa de Convalescencia”, a UNESCO-listed modernist building a stone’s throw from the Sagrada Familia. We look forward to seeing you and your fresh results here.

About ferroic domains

The field of ferroic domains is riding on a strong wave of interest on the physics and functionalities of domain walls.

  • The discovery of emergent electronic properties inside domain walls goes hand in hand with the development of powerful and versatile nanoscopy tools to that allow us to measure and manipulate domains and domain walls with new degrees of freedom and with unprecedented accuracy.
  • At the same time, materials engineering has risen to the point where we can make single-cristalline films with perfectly ordered and oriented domains of the desired type.
  • Alongside these experimental advances, first principles calculation methods have also expanded their capabilities to the point where extensive arrays of domains and domain walls can be simulated.

The maturity and synergy between these different fields is contributing to the rapid advance of nanoferroic domains and domain wall nanoelectronics. The ISFD is the venue to showcase this progress.
